HVO - Is anyone running it?

Post by fart-nugget »

Hey Everyone,

HVO is becoming more and more available where I am and I'm wondering can it be run in a 1.9TDi 130PD?

I know traditionally BioFuels aren't the best for these engines but it's my understand this new version of HVO isn't the same as the BioDiesels of yore. It's my understanding that previous generations of this fuel are Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) and Rapeseed Methyl Ester (RME) which are too thick and burn out the high pressure pumps, but these are not the same as HVO.

Here's a study I found from a university in Budapest: https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/12/15/2978
The engine they use in it a 1.9TDi (1Z) which, as far as I know, isn't a PD engine.

So yeah, I want to know if anyone has been running it in their car. I'd love to run it in mine as it's a bit cheaper and the general carbon footprint is lower, But I also don't want to blow up my engine.

Would love to know your thoughts

Cheers,
B
