B5 1.9tdi, non starter?

We have a trusted 1999 Passat B5 wagon , AFN engined 110BHP, 1.9 tdi . It runs a Blacksmoke uprated ECU.

It has always been very reliable in the ten years we have owned it. Always starting instantly on the key.

Last night we were on our way out and it wouldn't start for the first time ever!!? Good strong battery and engine turned over strongly but will not fire? Glow plug lights came on.

I need to have a look at it today. Could it be the fuel filter as it has needed changing for some time (I have a new one). Possibly a glow plug issue or fuel pump? What do I need to check?

Any thoughts or advice please. We are very rural so difficult to get it to a garage. Cheers Paul in France
