So the time has come to part with my Passat after 17 years of ownership and 300 000 miles of service. I was planning to keep it but I am not up to being a mechanic any more as I'm knocking on 60. I put a new engine in it myself 8 years ago and rebuilt the old engine with a view to another exchange at a later date but now have no use for the rebuilt engine as I have scrapped the car.
