NSR water ingress

Hi all,
Blimey, not been on here for perhaps a decade! Anyway, same car (of course) is Bobman still around?
I have a 54 plate Highline Passat 1.9 TDi AWX saloon, 04 54 plate.
Recently I discovered water (quite a bit) in the left hand side of the boot - the compartment where the jack and tools are. It's quite a recess, so has contained the water.
Dried it all out, tried silicone over the existing factory sealant as it seemed to be welling up from there (in the far back corner) nearest the rear lights.
Water tested, and it 's still getting in.
Maybe LH rear light cluster gasket?
If so, can I get a decent foam tape and make my own? Or use that black gum stuff (looks like a black silicone snake in a coil)
