Sounds like a hollow knocking sound coming from the front left of my Passat 2002 B5.5 TDI. It only makes the noise at very low speed going over uneven ground, sometimes when pulling away. The car has done 190k miles and its probably on original suspension, control arms !! I bought the car at 80K.
I've replaced the drop links / roll bar bushes last summer and the car had new front wheel bearings around 18 months ago and a new NS driver shaft from JR at the same time. Suppose it could be anything from a door hinge to a broken spring. I don't have access to ramp to get it in the air and do a crowbar test on all the control arm link?
Any thoughts what it might be? Had anyone else has these symptoms ?
