Trimming front wing puffa pad

Hi folks.
I’ll be replacing the pesky rotten front wings tomorrow so wanted some advice about those lovely puffa pads. Everybody says bin them but has anybody tried lopping the bottom off them (the bit that does the rubbing against the outer edge of the wing). After all, this is the only bit which causes the problem as the upper part is covered largely by inner wing splash guard. Have people who’ve removed the pads noticed any more noise or vibration?..could put some noise deadening pads on if it does suppose.
