NEW MEMBER SOS AUTO GEARBOX

Hi everyone, I really appreciate forums such as this and hoping I can get some help to sort my junk yard dog out! The car is a 2002 sport estate automatic TDI and I bought it for 350 with 160k on the clock from the scrap yard with 2 weeks mot. It just needed tyres and a headlamp, it drives incredibly well but it ran a little low on fuel when it started to flutter, put fuel in it, changed fuel filter / put additive in and still the same issue. I'm more convinced its the gear box because I'm getting a more jerky / vibration at various speeds, I'm just wondering what I should do as the car now stands me at 850 because I also did a service on it too. Thinking I'll take for a diagnostic (no lights actually on) then a box fluid and filter change? Cheers
