Air con problems?
The air con hasn't worked for a while on our 1999 Passat tdi Wagon. Just recently I think the air con compressor has started to make a noise when the engine is running. I think it may be the bearing in the compressor? It is quite noisy. We had the air con checked last year after getting it regassed and were told that the compressor was not working. I don't really understand how it all works? Should the compressor be being driven by a belt even when the air con is not on? (climatronic in eco position). The noise seems to be coming from this area of the engine bay? We probably need to get a new compreesor fitted, but for now are happy to just get rid of the noise until we can afford to get the work done? Any thoughts?
