Discs and pads

Post by Deadcentre » Wed Jun 19, 2019 6:38 pm

Hello all,

After recommendations for good quality discs and pads all round for my 2005 b5.5 tdi estate (standard set up).

Fully subscribe to the mantra that brakes are not an area you should try to skimp on, but at the same time why spend more if you don’t have to! Will go with the consensus and experience on here.

Thanks guys!

Pagid all the way. Can’t fault them. The discs are even coated. My rears haven’t got any rust anywhere and they’ve been on nearly a year.

Having had Pagid I now prefer Brembo .

Pad choice is anything but dusty OE , 3rd car now with full set of EBC Redstuff .

I'd give her some 'trivago' .

Thank you. Is there more than one type of fitment for the pads / discs? Only ask as when I put my car’s details into the ECP website, it alerts me to this possibility? If so is there a simple way to see which brakes I have? Going to try and do them myself.

Meh. I have Brembo on the front and they’re just as dusty as the pagids tbh And the discs rusted up within a few weeks.

I have EBC pads on the Audi but they’re about £170 a set for the front 4 pads per side.

It’s all fun and games. If I get the Jeep on the road this month the Passat will be getting half rebuilt throughout the year and my build thread will be busy. New engine, shocks, suspension, rear beam and subframe refurb muahahaha. You still got yours Gaz?

Oh yes it's the dependable for when the Merc goes into hospital , so far I would of been without wheels for 2 months if I had sold it !

Going to give it some love and treat it to good wings .

The Brembo although painted as is Pagid I always paint prior with Hammerite Smooth spray.

So there's no rusty bits and the pads clear up the rest .

As for dust I don't do OE pads , 3rd car now with a full set of EBC Redstuff .

If 288 highly recommended 312mm conversation only new discs and caliper carriers are required.

One last thing, got the dimensions of the discs but I’m getting a choice of two types of pads.....”teves” or “Lucas”. Any way to tell what I need so you can order them in advance of doing them?
