Electric drill sound from Front Offside

Hi folks
Yesterday my Passat 5.5 made a sound like a drill (wheeee!!!) at low speed on the front offside.

The car has been serviced regularly and (touch wood) hasn't given me too many problems over the couple of years I've had her.

Has anyone any idea what it could be? Track rod ends, CV joint?

It's booked into the garage for Monday but I would like to know before the mechanic gets his hands on the old dear.
