Fuel Flap release Actuator issue

I recently purchased a 2002 Passat estate, knowing about this problem. So the fuel flap release switch on the drivers door doesn't release the fuel flap. I have checked the fuses, which are fine. I have also taken the actuator out, and run 12v through it, and it works fine. Also the boot release switch doesn't respond either, so I think it may be a wiring issue. Are there any other obvious checks I can do, or places to look to fix this?
