Sump woe

Post by Conneh »

Got caught out by a speed bump the other night and heard a bang.

It was parked for about 8 hours after and I then drove it 70 miles home and the next day noticed oil under the car.

Initial thought was id cracked the sump and was fortunate I didn’t kill the engine on the way home.

Just removed the skid pan and there are no obvious cracks on the lowest part of the sump which is where it would most likely be I assume.

I thought it had ran dry as the leak had stopped, undone the oil sensor and oil came gushing out.

Could I have somehow damaged the sump above the subframe? Any other obvious ideas, I don’t have any stands or ramps so I only inspected from the ground

And could I plod about in it if it isn’t spewing its guts up?
