Emissions workshop and engine light

Hi guys
Yesterday my 2005 Passat started beeping and flashing at me. Engine management light has come on and also a emissions workshop warning. It does seem to be using more diesel to since coming on.
Brake lights work and the temperature dial is normal, thermostat and coolant temp sensor have been replaced with in the last 12 months with genuine parts.
Obviously I’m going to have to get it plugged in and code read.
That said can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong with it with the info I’ve mentioned?
