Pesky widows

Happy New year all ,

So my b5 drives side lock is getting worse to the point the widows drop when am unlocking the car sometimes locking it my passenger window sounds awful lots of grinding noises and stops and then drops back down and I have to give it a helping hand back up am not too fussed about the drives side lock it's the widows am more concerned about don't really want it getting stuck down so can I disable the window for now and how easy is it to fix what would be the Likely cause of the problem is it a common fault
