Replacement indicater stalk

My Passat has the annoying ticking coming from the indicater stalk, have tried contact cleaner with no real improvement so looking to replace it.
Couple of questions, i see pictures where the indicater stalk is attached to the wiper stalk but on eBay there are new stalks that come as just the indicater stalk so can they be separated when removed?
Also anyone have experience with these replacement non vw parts? Would prefer new item rather than used that may have the same issues.
