Rapid tyre wear on a B5 Wagon 1.9tdi

We have a 1999 1.9tdi Wagon which is running a Blacksmoke chipped ECU. We seem to be going through front tyres like nobody's business and also getting uneven wear. We had the tracking checked and set up couple of years back and the car drives in a straight line and doesn't pull one way or the other. Anyway fitted a pair of 205/50/16 Uniroyal Rainsports on the front at 163,500 miles and the car has just done 170,500 so only 7,000 miles. The tyres are wearing on the outside edges and there is not much tread left in the middle and inner edges either?

We do live in a part of France that has very winding mountain roads and we are constantly driving through tight corners?

Any advice people..can't afford to be replacing tyres every 7000 miles.
