G179 Side Airbag Crash Sensor

Post by Tropheus »

Hi,

The airbag light came on in my father-in-laws 2001 2.0l Petrol B5.5 Passat. I did a scan with VCDS and got the following codes.

01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
62-00 - No or Incorrect Adjustment
01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
28-00 - Short to Plus
01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
29-00 - Short to Ground

I did a bit of searching and checked the obvious things like the wiring. The wiring looked fine, so I decided it must be the sensor itself. I ordered a replacement with the same part number (6Q0 909 606) from eBay. It's from a B5.5 Passat.

I've now installed the replacement, but am still getting the error:

01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
62-00 - No or Incorrect Adjustment

From additional reading, I'm now seeing that there are different versions of the crash sensor with the same part number. There are two numbers on a white label on the crash sensor. They are:

02310D3ZJHRY

17010606

How do I find what version I need? From what I've read, it's not possible to adapt a different version so I'm down €65. :(

Thanks,
