Key fob not working - 1998 Passat

Hi all,

I have a 1998 Passat B5.

The key fob has stopped working. The red light doesn't flash on the key. Ive since tried changing the battery but no improvement.

So I'm unable to lock/unlock the car using the button on the key now.

In what order do I need to check:

- fuses (and location?)
- CCM
- Recoding sequence (with and without VCDS?)

The carpets all seem dry.

This also happened last year when it went cold, but then it ping'd back into life through spring and summer. Possibly unrelated?
Also, my driver door lock barrel is broken, I cant unlock with it (it just spins round and round......) although its been like this a while and not caused an issue, so I don't think related.
