passat feels like cars out of control when accelerating hard

recently my 2004 passat estate under rapid acceleration feels like the back of the car is out of control. like wanting to go a different way to front of car. or like tyres are very under inflated. it also seems to not be sitting flat if looked at from rear. the drivers side seems to be slightly lower. but measured gap between top of tyre to wheel arch and it appears to be about the same. kwik fit opinion was car may need four wheel allignment done as it could be front and back are not in allignment but not definate. and said that possibly rear shock causing uneven look .any more ideas.
