Sump /Oil pan removal on 8V AZM engine

I have managed to punch a hole in my Passats sump last week after driving off a plate designed to carry traffic across a field. As I drove off the plate the car sunk into a muddy hole and the corner of the plate busted the sump,

The problem is the cross member of the subframe is blocking me from simply lowering the sump pan and replacing it.
What I would like to know is has anyone changed a sump on these 8v engines and if so, can I get enough clearance by lifting the engine off its mounts with the transmission still attached?
I have had some quotes from a garage but if this job is possible at home I will give it a shot.
