DOOR LOCK ERRATIC

Post by DIOGENES »

Year 2000 B5 petrol 1.8 Passat estate.
Get in car, start engine, press 'lock all doors" switch on driver side door.
All locks close correctly except the front passenger door, where the lock indicator button often stays up instead of staying down.
Rather than a long messy job of repairing the lock, here is a lazy person's temporary "cure".

Get in car, start engine, press 'lock all doors" on switch on driver side door.
If the the front passenger door lock indicator button stays up, indicating "unlocked", do the following.

Leaving the ignition ON, press 'lock all doors" switch on driver side door 3 TIMES in rapid succession, as quick as you can.
The indicator should now stay down, showing door is locked.

I guess this is not really a complete solution, but it has worked OK for me for several years, and avoids a tricky repair job.
