Brake imbalance / wobble

Post by Oriskany »

My brakes have not been right since I got my 1999 1.8 B5 saloon. There was a feeling that something wasn't right as the brakes did not seem to bite, and there was a slight wobbly feel on harder braking. Today I aimed to find out what's wrong as the discs and pads have plenty on them.

The cause was a siezed caliper pin - lower nearside which responded well to cleaning and lubing with copper grease. The cause of this was that when the brakes were last serviced, the person had failed to pull the rubbers up onto the lips of the four caliper pins, leaving them exposed. I also bled the brakes and the fluid that came out was like new as the car has been dealer serviced most of its life. It's the simple things, isn't it - that can louse up a car.
