Spark plugs
Still tinkering with my newly aquired 1999 1.8 Passat and thought I'd check the spark plugs after replacing the pollen filter. What surprised me was just how tight the plugs were in - The pressure that I was having to apply to undo them was huge. After the initial crack, it still took quite some torque to wind them out of the holes. I removed them, cleaned the threads with a cloth to remove a brownish deposit and refitted them at 22 lb/ft. Either they had been fitted by a loon who had radically overtightened them, or they had become stuck over time into their threads. The plugs are NGK with three electrodes. The car has a nearly complete service history so they must have been put in by a garage. Anyone else had plugs stick like this?
