Noise when accelerating?

Hi,
My Passat 1.9 awx has started to develop a slight noise when accelerating like a soft rumble almost like a dry pulley sort of noise when pulling lightly from 2k revs up thru the gears 2nd is the most noticeable 5th unnoticeable, the car has done 162k original clutch kit dmf etc borrowed time I know, at a guess sounds like a dry release bearing or spigot bearing, would the dmf make that sort of noise, or gearbox?
