Engine / gearbox mounting question

I have a 2004 b5.5, pd130 awx engine with a GGB 5 speed gearbox.

I've got to change the gearbox and clutch at the weekend, (diff issues, believed to be rivets). Someone has told me to get the bottom bolts out for the gearbox, I have to drop the sump, apparently there located in the sump. I dont believe this is the case and I can't look at the car because I'm away with work. I've tried searching for guides and answers already and can't find an answer. Does anyone have an answer. Because if I have to drop the sump. I'll get a new gasket or sealant for it before hand.
