1.9 tdi pd130 not starting. Help !!!!

Changed the fuel filter on my car a Passat 1.9tdi pd130 2004. I refilled the new filter and now it won't start. On initial turn over it spluttered started then cut out. It's now refusing to start up. I cranked it over battery died. I would bleed bit unsure how to on a PD engine. Assistance information would be greatly appreciated as it's doing my nut in. On filter replacement I did replace both tiny rubber o rings on the plastic element. I can only assume air lock problems but not sure how to get round this.
