EML flashing

Can anyone help me I can't upload a video to show you however my EML is on, is fine as I can handle that doesn't effect the car in anyway in performance but have started to notice that if I leave it idling for a while the car starts to shake then revs just over a 1000 rpm then the EML starts flashing.
So my question is I have a 2003 1.8T Passat estate does anyone know what this could be before I take it to my dealer
