Intermittent Dashboard Settings Loss

Post by IanGreen »

Hi Everyone,
I have a brilliant 2002 Passat 1.9TDI, or it would be brilliant if the dashboard wouldn't keep resetting everything to zero.

For no apparent reason, and at totally unexpected times, i.e. not when travelling over bumpy ground., not when raining., not when changing gear., not when headlights are on, not when the indicators are being used or when the windscreen wipers are in action --- the dashboard display suddenly comes alive and shows all triangles, (red and yellow), air bags, ignition lights etc., for about 20-30 seconds, before going back to a normal display, but having reset the trip meter, clock, MPG/miles remaining settings back to zero.

This can happen 2-3-4 times over the span of a week, and then nothing more for several weeks/couple of months, when it all starts again. (Not weather related either.)

In all other respects the car is absolutely great, and is serviced regularly by an excellent local (non-VW) garage.

Has anyone else had the same, or similar, experience please?

Thank you,

Ian
