6 Speed Gearbox noise

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and Passats. I've just picked up a cheapish B5.5 1.9 PD Sport Estate that now appears to have a noisy gearbox, it's done just over 200K miles. The grinding noise is more noticeable on overrun in 4th, 5th and 6th gears. It seems to be speed dependent but I'm not 100% on that.
I've been quoted £850 + parts for a rebuild of my box, and fleabay replacements are looking to be at that sort of price.
What would be the best option? A rebuild or a second hand box? Searching the forum I found that there are some Audi six speed boxes that could work as a replacement DQS or ELN, are they a direct fit?
