Drove my AWX Audi A6 to Spain a couple of months ago and had the coolant temp sensor changed a long with belt, water pump and a load of other stuff before I went.
Made the mistake of buying a cheap chinky £4.99 temp sensor which died within 700 miles of my 1400 mile journey but was working for those 700 miles fine and the car was giving good mpg - 58 of I recall but for quite some time now its only been returning 38 on a run and worse round town.
Since then the engine won't get up to 90 and the temp sensor fault code has reappeared when scanned....
....so this time off I went to TPS and bought a genuine sensor for £43. As many will have seen I cocked up the job of removing the old temp sensor right up and had to have a new temp sensor housing fitted which has all been done and the new temp sensor fitted....
....BUT still not getting up to temp (needle on 60 degrees) - coolant temperature has been read to stay around 42/43 degrees and its getting no hotter.
The thermostat is fine and as I say the coolant temp sensor fault is still there....
My mechanic is now saying its the sensor down near the bottom of the radiator....
Sensors are expensive - anyone else know whats at fault here? Temp gauge is operating - i.e the dash/dials are not broken.
Thank you,
