TDI Diesel Chip Tuning

Post by kajon95 » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:54 pm

Anyone recommend getting their TDI's chipped for better performance and better MPG?
Is the difference noticeable?
What's the best place to get these chips and how do I know which one works and which doesn't. (I've seen some for £500 and some for £50 so not sure what the difference is)

Cheers

Hi,

I got my B5.5 Highline 130 ps (AWX) remapped by AMD in Thurrock. It cost £400 inc VAT and is very good indeed. Give them a buzz, sorry, I don't have the number, but they are in all the VW mags in WHSmith's etc.
There is also a branch of AMD in Woking in Surrey. I don't think they even have to open the bonnet to do the remap - although I never asked. The BHP in mine has gone up from 130 to around 175ish. Never had it rolling road tested, but if you do, they can print you out a before and after power / torque graph. (this will cost extra though, and don't know how much).
As far as I'm aware, the remap is done completely through the OBD socket located underneath the steering wheel, roughly where your knees are.
I can honestly recommend AMD, they are nice guys, helpful and not cowboys by any means.

Cheers,

Matt

Get it Upsoluted by Simon. Top geezer and if two or more of you get together he'll give you a decent discount.

He did my 110tdi on the group buy we had. 143bhp and it goes like stink. It realy annoys some of petrol boys when they get in my car and we're doing a reasonable overtaking speed an still getting 60 mpg..

I would recommend a remap as it just makes the car more fun to drive and if your gentle it can give you better MPG.

Just be aware of some of the power claims, the turbo on the PD130 is quite small and restricts the power output but saying that I think with a stadard set up you should still see 170bhp ish.

You will be putting a fair bit more load on your drive train but you can get a torque limmited map if you worried.
