Air con questions

Hi all,

Had my air com gassed last summer but no cold air out the vents....garage seemed to thing compressor was seized...so i went away and did nothing about it all year - they took the gas out again.

Here i am laid under the car - compressor is down on the floor now but wire was not plugged in....

Could someone tell me -

Should this compressor power up immediately as soon as the fans in the car are switched on?

Any way to test this compressor to see if it is indeed working?

And also...the climate thing flashes boobs at me when i turn on indicating no refrigerant....

So would be grateful if someone could help me with how i can test it
