Dog Guard query

Hello,
I am completely useless with cars and knowledgr of them..
I have a 55 plate passat 1.9 diesel which I think is a B5? I would like that clarified firstly if possible.
Second, I am looking for a dog guard (second hand) and have become completely bemuesd by the different types!
I think I need a B5, but then I see others for B6 and I think my year car is when it changed from one to the other?
Now I see B5.5 when I thought I new what I was looking for
Anyone got any clues (or links would be magic) for an old clueless fool, I'd be most grateful
