Passenger door issue

I require help and advice on the usual issue with my door I'm having which is really annoying me now.
When I bought the car the rear passenger door wouldn't open and the window didnt work.
I managed to remove the regulator and after bashing the door lock mechanism to hell have finally got it to open.
The mechanism has now been changed and locks/unlocks via the fob, but for some reason it only open from the inside now although I did manage to open it from the outside a couple of times.
The second issue is that I plugged in a new regulator and nothing happens....all I can hear is a clicking from that side.
Before I go and buy a new loom and regulator again, can anyone advise me if there is a way of testing the regulator and also what the issue might be with the door not opening from the outside.
I have looked at the loom and there doesn't seem to be any breakages that I can see.
