Expensive problem: Clutch/Gearbox

Post by DuFFmAN » Tue Sep 16, 2008 12:43 am

Hey Guys,

I'm starting to have another problem with my Passat. I'm sure it was cursed as it left the production line!

Anyway, I am hearing a very heavy knocking sound which I can feel through my clutch pedal as I try to hit the biting point. It only happens in low gears. The performance of the car is as normal. However the vibrations/noise is starting to sound very expensive! Has anyone hear had this problem before?

I have a 1.9tdi 130 on a 52plate. Shes done 106k now.

if it is that then it will be expensive, mine went on a Golf GTTDi and fitted new clutch at same time bill was shade under £1K  mine was done under warranty thank goodness :|

Do some research, and don't be alarmed as it may not be this at all, symptoms are uneven idle when in traffic and rumbling/vibrations again more noticeable when stationary with engine running,I hope this is not what you have.

Yeah, I have all those symptoms, except my idle is fine. The car drives fine. It still picks up nicely etc. As described earlier, it only happens in low gears and at idle. It may happen in higher gears/speed but I probably don't notice this as much! It basically feels like something is loose!

no, other than possibly some contamination on clutch/flywheel which has worn away, happy days :D
