PCV / Valve Cover / Crank Case Ventilation (CCV)

Post by cliveski »

Is there some way of testing / diagnosing if my CCV is blocked?
I have gained some idea on how to check but am a little confused.

I have heard about a test involving the oil cap - should I feel suction when I gently undo and remove the oil cap with the engine running or should I hear a hiss of air escaping followed by some air slightly blowing the cap away?

I'm changing my turbo this coming weekend and have read that a blocked CCV can cause turbo seals to go and question if this is the problem my car has.

I gather the CCV is part of the rocker cover so is about £120 to replace? any idea on part number for a jan 2004 1.9 tdi awx 130bhp engine?

Thanks
