Oil Sensor warning?

Hi Guys,
fired car up this morning came up with oil sensor warning? turned engine off thinking have i got oil in it and yes oil levels are fine. anyone encountered this fault before? if its a case of fitting a new sensor then happy days just not sure why it would fail any help be great.
