do you need a wind back tool for doing the fronts?

golddust
What the hell is a wind back tool?
Do you mean something to compress the calliper? If so I've always just used a G-clamp.

Simple. Lots of guides around, I used this one myself

doesnt the block of wood and mallet trick work?

Gary
A wind-back tool screws the piston back into the calliper (typically there's a cross on the piston - I tend to use a flat file like a big screwdriver). Cramping a screw-in piston back in can be an expensive mistake.

Fronts are normal slide pistons.
Only the rears are screw type pistons.
Changed my front pads last week, took 15 mins Wink
