1.9TDi 110bhp Wagon performance?

Post by supersnail »

Need a bit of feedback guys. In the past, I've had a B5.5 1.9TDi PD 100bhp Saloon and then a B6 2.0TDi PD 140bhp Wagon. I've now bought a B5 1.9TDi 110bhp Wagon for the commute to work and the performance is puzzling me somewhat. Acceleration in all gears on both the PD engines was more than acceptable. But in the B5, the engine is "flat" if I try to accelerate in the higher gears, particularly if I'm on an incline. If I drop a gear or two, then the acceleration is there and I certainly can't complain about the fuel consumption, @ 56/57 mpg at a steady 60 mph on a 30 mile commute. Is it a characteristic of the older pre-PD engines or could there be another reason for it?
