Car locking itself

Hi guys. Quick question; my Passat locks itself again, even if I've opened the drivers door. It looks like the door opening isn't being acknowledged. Furthermore the light at the bottom of the door doesn't work. I suspect these two problems might be related. Has anyone got any suggestions?
