Something odd happened to my 2003 TDI today, for no apparent reason the realtime fuel consumption display fluctuated rapidly between 5 MPG (when the car was stopped, should normally show -- MPG) and 199 ish ... also the numbers were constantly changing (i.e. faster than the display could keep up, rather than it pausing on the current reading for around a second as it should normally work)
It was irritating, and distracting, me sufficiently that at the next set of lights I turned the ignition off and back on again and everything's gone back to normal.
Anyone have any idea what could cause this / could it be indicative of a more serious problem ?
