Aerial/Radio Reception Question.

Ive got an aftermarket headunit installed wit an Autoleads amplifier as we know the aerial base is amplified via a feed through the coax.

Now i actually get horrible radio recption via this setup, which suggests to me that maybe some water ingress has happened and the ampliefier in the base is basically goosed. lol.

Could i run the aerial without the Autoleads amplifier so it now runs as most other standard aerials? i.e not powered. Or will the signal be even worse? Or does it work better when its amplified and working properly?
