Disconnect battery to clear codes? Airbag fault

Post by fvf »

Short story: Can I disconnect the battery as a cheap/easy way to clear fault codes? (2000 AHU passat)

Slightly longer story: The airbag fault indicator went off a few days ago. The dealership did a scan and said it was a sensor in the passenger footwell. They cleared it but it reappeared (or so they say). The footwell was wet. Again. Sigh. Well, I've dried up the carpet and I'll look into the leakage. But I'd also like to get rid of the annoying airbag indicator. Hopefully I can locate the sensor and have a look at it, but I gather that even if I was to be lucky and fix it, the indicator will remain until it's cleared with a VAG-COM etc. So, can I just make the ECU forget it all by disconnecting the battery for a while? Any other tips wrt. the airbag sensor etc would of course also be much apreciated.
