After a bit of advice...
Last night I popped up the road and doing about 10 mph the engine made a few funny noises and stopped ! Fearing the worst I peaked behind the cam belt cover to find it snapped
The engine is a 1999 110 TDI code AVG having done 165k miles.... so what to do.. hunt down another comlete engine/ accident damaged car.... recon head.... stick it on ebay and hunt down another car.
I guess I need to get to the bottom of the cause... suggestions ? Cam belt wasn't due for 25k but that was assuming that it had really been done by garage according to receipt provided by prev owner last time round.. I guess pump could have seized so need to check that..
Anyway just after some advice really am happy to get my hands dirty having tinkered a fair bit with engines in the past.
Any advice appreciated.
