Oil leak from broken crankcase breather hose flange?

Post by alpenweiss2 »

Hello folks, me again! So I have discovered that the crankcase breather hose that goes from the side of the engine on my 1.9tdi AFN Passat has broken and has been leaking oil. It is the plastic flange that bolts to the side of the engine which has completely cracked in half. Managed to remove it and look it up online. The replacement parts do not contain the large white filter part - 052 103 535 (and are just a black hose). Is this filter thing strictly necessary? ShouId I cut the new hose in two and fit the filter from the old hose?

Also I am guessing I cannot drive the car until the hose is replaced? Lots of oily residue around where the broken flange was?

This is the part I need to order I believe?
