Electrical cooling fan fire....

Post by morel »

Hi all,

first time posting and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I recently had a small electrical fire (!) on the electric coolant fan in my B5.5 1.9 TDI.

Have replaced the fan and checked it works using a 12v current. however it will not run when I put the AC on. I can here the relay click on and off when switching from Auto to ECON on the AC but the fan doesn't run. fuses all fine but finding a diagram of the relays that matches what is actually on my car seems impossible!

I have read a lot of conflicting advice about the N39 coolant fan control and am unsure if it even exists on this model. I believe that whatever the resistance mechanism is to get this to run on low speed is bad.

any advice as to where I should be looking and what im looking for?
