Hi,
My father-in-law has a 2001 B5.5 2.0 petrol Passat with 125k miles. I noticed that the aircon hasn't been working well recently and went for a gas service. I was told that the a/c compressor isn't creating enough pressure and needs to be changed.
Does anyone know if changing a compressor is a DIY job? I'd obviously get the system degassed beforehand. I can see compressors for around €300 (I'm based in Dublin). Unfortunately the car just isn't worth paying someone to do it. I'm guessing an aircon specialist would charge 2-3 times that.
Opinions would be appreciated.
