Cheap auxiliary belt tensioners on ebay

Post by steviemac » Fri May 19, 2017 12:41 pm

G'day all,

Need to replace my belt tensioner - has anybody got any experience of the cheap tensioners on ebay? Eurocarparts price £100+, ebay around £35

Before anybody says - it's not my alternator pulley - I've done it!

Thanks in advance

Got any links?
or do you mean like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-VW-PASSAT ... SwdGFY2jx5
if so they are ok from what I've heard the weak spot is the bearing in the pulley which is unbranded not a branded bearing but saying that they have a 2 year guarantee on them so if it does fail send it back

It does annoy me the cost from INA direct is only £22.80 so why do company's ask so much for them it doesn't make sense as the 1.8t aux tensioner costs from INA £28.33 and most places sell it for around £45 /£50

Some of the ebay ones are £115!

Eurocarparts is listed at about the same, but comes down to £75 is with their better discounts.

Carparts4less is about £67 with their 12% off at the moment.

Only reason I stay where I am,
if you want timing belt kits etc just ask, water pumps aren't easy but can get some though other suppliers although not great prices at the moment

Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately I did the cam belt kit, water pump and most of the front end belts, pulleys and tensioners at the beginning of the year.

I bought a cheap one only lasted 25k the plastic bushing in the shock absorber give up making the pulley go slightly off centre rubbing against the timing case, just replaced it with a mapco one around £50 seems alot better made allegedly made in Germany.

Too true, I wont make the same mistake again, suppose the only way to justify cheap parts is if your gonna sell your car
