Whooshing noise on throttle??

Hey guys,

I own a 2004 B5.5 PD130 which has done 103K.
For the past week I've noticed a hissing/whooshing noise on throttle ONLY. Similar noise to a turbo winding up. (If that makes sense)

I think I'm chucking out a little more smoke than usual and I think my mpg's have droppped slightly. Power is still there and she still idles fine.

I'm very new to the Passat world. Is there a common pipe that splits on these? Or could it be something else?

Any advise is much appreciated!!
