is climatronic air conditioning??

is my climatronic climate controll in my 1997 b5 aircon? on the display is an "econ" and a "auto" button but no air con.

ive had the "auto" setting set to "low" but it still doesnt seem that cold...is it regulated by the inside tempreture i.e. if its 28 degrees inside it will blow cooler air than if its 16 degrees?

is there anything in the engine bay i could look for to give me a clue like a compressor or something?

my car is a 1997 passat (p reg) 1.6 SE
